Note: When using cheap zinc carbon batteries, it may be possible due to the high self-discharge (7% per month!) and the associated loss of capacity can lead to disruptions relatively quickly. It is recommended to use alkaline manganese (alkali) batteries as they have a higher capacity, lower self-discharge and higher leakage resistance. Rechargeable batteries can also be used as these have a lower voltage (1.2 volt) than batteries (1.5 volt)
